The initial question was as follows and I need you to reply to the 2 students dicussions I have incuded at the bottom:

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

  Internal Communication

Internally, it may be necessary to communicate persuasively to a boss, peer, or subordinate. In a 250-300 word response, evaluate how or if your communication would differ in each situation. Would there be differences in the decision making process when involving these individuals? Use at least one resource to support your key points. Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ posts.

Effectively communicating with all 3 groups requires differing approaches.   More charismatic people seem to have the art of persuasion down to the letter.  Many of us must rely on a more standard reasoning approach to problem solving.  Preparing to communicate a persuasive argument with your boss is going to be different than a peer or subordinate.  Communicating with your boss always adds a little more stress and requires more research than the other 2 groups. When preparing your argument for a persuasive conversation with your boss, the first thing to consider is how am I going to present the information?  How much detail does my boss like?  To be persuasive you must first know what you want the outcome to be and form your argument to meet that outcome.  According to Baack, (2012).  “The outcome of the process, the actual decision, requires precise and clearly understood communication to be effectively implemented. Consequently, the connection between quality communication and successful decision-making is evident.”  The art of persuasion is trying to get your intended decision achieved through your boss.  Remember to show the cause and effect of no decision being made.  Theodore Roosevelt: “In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”

Effectively persuading your boss will be much more work than a peer or subordinate.  Most peer and subordinates already understand the problem that you are trying to solve and should be must easier to persuade them.  I would use my peer as a sounding board while rehearsing my argument.  Working together we can revise and edit for the presentation.

It is applicable to say I use different forms of communication when trying to persuade my boss, peers, or other subordinates. When I would want to persuade my boss, I want to appeal to his or her emotion outlook towards me and towards the information I want him or her to receive.  Persuading my boss‘s feelings towards me and my proposals involves more than just being emotional ( Baack, 2012 ). For instance, I could tell him or her short story, complement his or her good qualities, or simply just show my personality.  I would still want to use formal communication and logical reasoning.

However, with peers, I usually actively listen more then I communicate when trying to persuade because I want to understand their perspective and how they feel about the information I am presenting to them. According to Baack (2012), ‘In general, one of the gifts of an effective listener may be termed situation sensitivity, or the ability to quickly assess a conversation’s context and respond accordingly’’ (6.3 Listening Tactics and Techniques, para. 9). I want my peers to know that I care about what they have to say. Then I would proceed with interactive listening, which allows the receiver and I adequate time to respond to each others feedback.  I would use a mixture of informal and formal communication with peers on the job. 

With subordinates, I would use a different communication style because they are ranked under me. Even though I would be respectable, I would want to use positive reinforcements to get my point across. Subordinates will become more willing to listen to my persuasion if I express positive opinions. This form of expression could persuade them to view my opinions with an open mind even if they are doubtful at first (Baack, 2012). A positive atmosphere always alleviates situational tension or controversy in a heated discussion of persuasion. I would be more concerned with maintaining hierarchy instead of being emotionally submissive or friendly or as I would be with my boss or peers or on the job.
