For your project this week, you will complete your literature review. Your literature review is a comprehensive review of sources you have chosen to use for your final project. The literature review should include 8-10 sources related specifically to your topic. Each source should be: described and explained, reviewed for quality, and clearly defined in terms of how it will be used for your thesis. The reader should have a clear understanding of what the source is and why it is was chosen for your review. Be sure to complete the assignment using proper APA formatting. Your literature review should be approximately 9-15 pages in length.

Summary The insanity defense is a controversial topic in criminology with input from the field of psychology. As such, it has many professionals on both sides of the argument with various reasons being provided in defense or against the insanity defense. This research will engage the input of various professionals in criminology and psychology who have written on the topic of insanity defense. A systematic review of this literature will seek to understand their arguments and whether they are consistent with their ideological views about other issues in society. For instance, is there a relation between the professional’s conservatism or liberal ideology and their position on the insanity defense? This review can be supplemented with exploratory study using a survey and involving professionals in the criminology and psychology fields. Using a systematic analysis and a survey of professionals will allow triangulation in understanding perceptions of professionals on the insanity defense better.
