The Catholic University of America Agbelie 1 Introduction to Engineering Design Fall 2018 Class Report As it was given a task to us that we should introduce our selves to five students and get their point of view about why they choose engineering as their major in college so we interviewed five students and their comments about engineering as college are as follows. Student 1: • If you look at the salary then you can easily understand that the salaries of engineering students are at the top among all other professions in the world. The salaries of engineers in America and in Europe are the biggest proofs of this. • Working as a professional in IT or any other industry mean you need to have transferable skills such as critical reasoning, problem solving, and analysis to sustain so by doing this engineering it will help me a lot to explore myself. When you are working with modern technologies then everything is a challenging day for you so it excites me because it helps to enhance my creative skills which can help me in future. • Student 2: • • • Studying engineering mean getting exposed to the vast range of business models, working under intelligent individuals so repetitive practice of these skills will train my personality to become entrepreneur. From working as an engineering graduate to continue to earn an MBA, this career has lot to offer so its mean that it has great flexibility and choices for me as a job seeker to choose better option as per their interest. At every point in life, creativity and an analytical approach is needed to overcome challenges. Thus, any person like me who want to implement knowledge at the right path can choose engineering as art science. Student 3: • • • Finding job satisfaction is often very difficult to measure as there will be times you’d feel like you’re in the wrong industry. So I think taking engineering as my career path will help my job satisfaction. Engineers usually attain a good reputation to the society and in the industry. So according to me being a part of something big, people will know and remember my name plus up-and-coming engineers will look up to me and the work I have done too so it will increase my reputation. The field of engineering is a minefield of learning, or new things waiting to be explored. So I think being an engineer will allow my brain to be in working 24/7 and it will help me to increase my working and thinking ability. Student 4: • • If you’re crazy about cars you can work in automotive engineering, or if you’re interested in tablet technology you can choose electronic engineering. Not to mention civil, aerospace, aeronautical, astronautical, biomedical, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical and structural engineering – there’s something for everyone that why I love to study engineering. Why I want to be an engineer is that if you’re an engineer or training to become one, you can join the engineering institution relevant to your particular engineering disciplines. Institutions often provide a community, resources, events, support and more for engineers who join them. Student 5: • The skills that you develop as an engineer are incredibly valuable and highly sought after. People will turn to me to help solve problems for them since this is my bread and butter skill. The ability to provide practical solutions to problems is crucial and will give me great confidence when faced with any challenge or obstacle so that why I choose engineering as my college major. • I want money in my life so I think for me the best and the fastest solution to be rich is the engineering because it will offer me great jobs with handsome salaries so I think in shorter times I will be rich. According to my review a person chooses engineering more because of the need of his family and society. The society are the biggest master mind behind every job profession. And being an engineer is enough to satisfy them. Different jobs and the needed requirements: We were said to identify three jobs and make a report regarding their requirements and your interests. Lab Engineer – Department of Electrical Engineering – LUMS • • • I want to do this job because it is first preference in life to be a teacher when to grow up and teaching is also very sacred profession so I think by accepting this position I will get the chance to serve humanity. As it is the lab of an electrical engineering and the tutor has to perform labs in the subjects of microprocessor and digital design area so I must know briefly about the microprocessor devices which are being using now a days and learn a lot how to design things properly. As it is a job of electrical engineer so the main skills required by me are as follows 1. Designing of the lab manuals 2. Learn to know how to operate lab equipment’s 3. Learn how to operate, maintain and manage lab’s inventory 4. Learn how to prepare laboratory and all other exams 5. Learn how to choose best equipment’s for my students to train them Electrical Engineer – Omega Power Technologies (Pvt) Ltd. • • • As it is job of the electrical engineering sector because the main requirement of the person who is being required should have the abilities to test and ensure the quality of the different ongoing projects in the company and if it comes to me I will accept this position because by doing this job I will be able to gain experience on the quality control and it has a lot to learn. And being a technical member of this engineering team I will be able to focus on the design, analysis, testing and integration of motor inverter drives, control systems, high power DC/DC converters and battery systems. All these will help me to make my dreams into reality.
